Do you know the Christopher Fry play 'The Boy with the Cart'? It's about the original founding of Steyning church by the Saxon saint Cuthman. We put it on at school when I was about 12, my blogging friend Polly who calls herself Tall Girl, and indeed she always was, was the eponymous Boy - it was an all-girls school, obviously.

Anyway, I liked the story so much, and my mum didn't need much excuse to head down to Brighton and her childhood stomping ground, and one Saturday she and my sister woke me up very early and said 'Do you wnat to go to Steyning?', and off we went, by train then bus. The church is a later one, not the Saxon St Cuthman's I had hoped to see, but there is a modern window depicting the legend, and we had a great day out. It was March but so hot we lay down in a field and went to sleep. Your pictures bring it back to me, for which thanks!
