  2. Looks almost like a red madrona tree, native to the Pacific Northwest... but I imagine they'd grow in the U.K. also.

    Very rare trees... under-appreciated here.

    sadly it is a dead tree & as the second photo shows more clearly, the red colour was paint ... my impression when i first saw it was that it had been painted in the previous year ( 2004 ? ), probably by someone using a hydraulic platform for access to the bare boughs

    The red tree is very sad now. I have worked at the farm for many years long before it was painted red. It's still standing and up close you can still see some red paint. It'a pity the cows weren't pout there when the phot was taken
