of the seven deadly sins, the eighth and worst by far is emotional blackmail ... the diligent practise of this subtle and ancient art creates a constantly evolving darwinistic moral vacuum in which the brightest new manipulative ideas and stratagems flourish ... and which only you, or i, can fill !

dawdling on the way home from the bus stop
W. H. Davies
Leisure
Leisure
WHAT is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare?—
No time to stand beneath the boughs,
No time to stand beneath the boughs,
And stare as long as sheep and cows:
No time to see, when woods we pass,
No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass:
No time to see, in broad daylight,
No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like skies at night:
No time to turn at Beauty's glance,
No time to turn at Beauty's glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance:
No time to wait till her mouth can
No time to wait till her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes began?
A poor life this if, full of care,
A poor life this if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

curiouser & curiouser
you might not expect a dairy products warehouse to be one of the cultural outposts of educated cynicism ... but as i approached a slightly cross-eyed young polish forklift driver whilst making a delivery to a refrigerated warehouse near woking, he greeted me thus ...
"good morning, oedipus !"
... which he pronounced oy-dip-uss
i pointed out that i am neither clever nor blind ... yet

the V&A ... the excellence of every art must consist in the complete accomplishment of its purpose
these panels above the main entrance to the V&A were made by Drury, the same man that made those huge figures on the downstream side of vauxhall bridge
