i closed my eyes & wondered about all the ladies who must have polished this church

 

village pump at hartfield, sussex

for the first time in my life, i worked the handle of a village pump, & clear water issued forth !

 

I will paint our sky a deeper shade of lapis ...

Rocketing through a forest of crystal & gold

... & hot amber on the sea at dawn.

 

Your sigh, a brazen Mediterranean wind ...

 

... whose molten echo forbids all sleep & ...

 

... tangles my sheets around ...

 

... my runaway dreams
