pan di doge ... you wouldn't want to fall into the grand canal if you'd just eaten even one half

Appropos of your visit to Venice, rather than any one of your evocative photographs, have you read Donna Leon's detective stories all of which are set in Venice?

A Venice surrounded by a lagoon of Murano glass, suggests one of Italo Calvino's Invisible Cities.

oh dear, i haven't read italo calvino yet, or donna leon ... i've only read primo levi ... so where do i begin ?

i see the lagoon project as a visible wall, possibly quite ornate, and an opportunity to create a thirty mile circular strip of real estate where millionaires can moor their cruisers and the locals can set up some fish farms
