of the seven deadly sins, the eighth and worst by far is emotional blackmail ... the diligent practise of this subtle and ancient art creates a constantly evolving darwinistic moral vacuum in which the brightest new manipulative ideas and stratagems flourish ... and which only you, or i, can fill !
it was read on the Home Service when I was a child ... my mother curled up in an armchair at one point, speechless, almost in tears with a mixture of mirth and shared embarrassment
of course there is much more to the book than the comic passages, but i would spoil it by waffling on

Extraordinary coincidence, I bought a second hand copy 2 weeks ago at a bookshop in Burnham Market (£6). Haven't read it yet.
