a driver's fruitful break ... two lovely books from oxfam ... tunnicliffe and taylor

What's the Tunnicliffe? I went to a big retrospective exhibition of Tunnicliffe when I was about 10, it distressed me a bit that most of his initial studies of birds were of shot dead ones. I suppose when photography was less sophisticated it was the only way, and nobody worried too much that gamekeepers were shooting rare raptors...

it is one of four lovely ladybird books published in the late 1950s called what to look for in winter, ... spring, ... summer, and autumn.

each contains country scenes that are strongly evocative of the rough, less-manicured, less-mechanized, fieldscapes of my childhood
